Tuesday's game between the Superior High School girls basketball team and Ashland didn't go into overtime, but the Oredockers still managed to give Superior more of a challenge than it has faced so far early in the season. Superior and Ashland battled into overtime in both of their regular season games last year, but Superior made sure Tuesday's game wouldn't run beyond regulation by jumping out to a quick lead. Ashland stormed back to make it a two-possession game, but Superior remained in front and put the game safely out of reach until the final minutes of play. Superior's reserve players were vital in the second half as Hailey Kontny and Jessica Lindstrom were both benched with three fouls early.

More than two months after rape charges against him were dropped, year-old Andrew Lawrence has finished high school in Superior. But there's a caveat: It was from "the bad kids' school," said his mother's partner, Rita Bergstrom. He was robbed of his senior year. Lawrence, once "calm and cool," has become withdrawn and paranoid about being arrested again, said Vince King, one of his closest friends. Bergstrom's anger level ratchets up as she talks about why she believes her stepson was falsely accused and how the police and prosecution rushed to charge him. The year-old woman who accused Lawrence of rape lives only a few blocks from him. She said she's also furious and traumatized. She still contends that someone broke into her home, put a gun to her throat, raped her and got away with it.

Melissa Piekarski is seeing her sixth-grade daughter go through what she did in junior high: sexual, physical and verbal harassment at the hands of a boy. Her daughter, 12, attends Superior Middle School, where she's endured harassment on the bus, in school and online. The bullying started with girls posting disparaging things on Facebook; calling her daughter a lesbian for having a close female friend and a "homo" for writing a post that she loved her mom. Then a boy on the bus started verbally and physically assaulting her and a friend. He pushed them into icy snow banks and onto the street when they got off the bus. He's punched them, pulled their hair, made lewd gestures and spread lip gloss on her daughter's chest, Piekarski said.
Favoritism and Nepotism: Managing Favoritism in the Workplace
Favoritism in the workplace is exactly what it sounds like: favoring someone not because he or she is doing a great job, but for reasons outside of the job performance. For instance, a manager consistently offers an employee the best and most highly-regarded projects, even though that employee does not perform well enough to deserve them. Or perhaps an employee is offered a promotion over someone else who has been at the company longer and has more experience. Oftentimes, favoritism occurs when a manager and an employee have developed a friendship beyond the workplace. Examples of favoritism in the workplace are when two coworkers worked together previously and have a shared history, or maybe they have bonded over common outside interests, like sports or music. The effects of favoritism in the workplace can become even worst when these friendships turn into potential harassment. Another form of favoritism is nepotism. The Guardian.

Getting along with your boss can be great, especially when it makes the daily grind that much more enjoyable. You may even feel so close to your boss that you hang out after work or invite them to your wedding. But at the end of the day, it's important to remember that your friend is still your superior, and there's a line you probably shouldn't cross. Honesty is the best policy in the workplace — but like any rule, this one has a few exceptions.
Alas, as I organized my ideas I ran into a problem. I couldn't write about Dad and my teen-age years without telling of my teen-age romances. I didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings so I had to alter some stories and craft new ones. And once the stories became fiction this story literally began to re-write the past.
