Nov 2015 Potluck & Skill-Share – Knitting & Weaving

This month’s meetup will be Spanish-friendly! Activities will be taught in both Spanish and English, depending on the needs of the participants.

Knitting with Pilar

knittingPilar Herrera-Fierro will teach knitting the way she learned in her native Chile.
Bring knitting needles and yarn if you have them. If not, let us know at a2reskilling@gmail.com
so we will have some available for you to borrow.


Weaving with Kayla

weavingKayla Powers will bring her standing loom and introduce the weaving process from start to finish.
These skill-shares are meant for both men and women,
beginners and advanced—all are welcomed!

At July’s skill-share Ginny Rogers taught chain maille making, and Mary Cinch of Cinch Sewing taught basic machine sewing. Beautiful projects were completed in a short time, thanks to the careful preparation and instruction provided by our teachers. Thanks Ginny and Mary for volunteering your time, we really appreciate it!

Machine Sewing and Mending

Mary Burton, Owner of “Cinch Sew” of Ann Arbor, will teach you how to create a portable, roll-up placemat with cutlery holder to take home!  Also, feel free to bring mending projects you would like advice on. *To assure we provide enough sewing machines, please pre-register for this class at:  http://cinchsew.eventbrite.com.   If you have a working sewing machine you would like to bring, please do!

Making Chain Maille

Ginny Rogers will teach how to use two pair of pliers to bend wire into circles and interweave them into beautiful chains in both simple and complex patterns.  Create jewelry, armor, and more!  *Please pre-register to be assured we have enough tools for your use, at: http://chainmaille.eventbrite.com. If you have small needle-nose or blunt-nose pliers, please bring them!

Representing Holzer AgroForestry, Justin Pawloske will be demonstrating theories and methods for advanced permaculture design.  Topics to be covered include Huglekulture, naturally functioning water retention spaces, intelligent design, and the benefits of small scale rotational grazing.

Hallows Evening Skill-share – Oct 24

Ann Arbor Reskilling offers an evening of fun—join us for some or all:

6:00 Potluck!  Bring a dish to pass and plate/cup/fork.

7:00 Choose y’r Skillshare:

  1. Get your goulish groove on:  Learn to Swing/Contra/Folk dance with Reuven!

  2. Fermented Brew Sauerkraut:  Kathleen Carroll will show how to turn cabbage into probiotic heaven without vinegar.

  3. Fancy pants pumpkin carving:  Bring your own carving tools and scooped out pumpkin and get ready to make lantern magic.

  4. Calling all henna tattooers and face painters:  Bring your tools of the trade, now’s the time to show your stuff!
